Summary

Hester Prynne gives birth to an illegitimate child, but she refuses to mention the identity of the father. This means she has to be punished. She has to stand on a platform of the pillory for three hours. Then she has to wear for the rest of her life a scarlet Letter A, for adultery on her bosom as a mark of shame. Mr Dimmesdale , the minister persuades her to tell who the father is. But Hester doesn’t. Only Dimmesdale and Hester know that he the father is. In the public stands her husband He wants to know...
