- Charles Darnay: He is a calm man, and he looks like/is a gentleman. He is a French man, and later he marries the English Lucie Manette.
- Dr. Manette: He is an old man, and he it’s hard for him to remember things. He is the father of Lucie, and he was in prison for a long time.

The story is located in Paris and in London: A big part of the book is about the Bastille, and the Bastille is in Paris.
