*Summary: Edmund Hooper is eleven years old and lives with his father in a very big house, Warings. Some day, in the vacation, Mrs. Helena Kingshaw and her son Charles were coming to Waring. Helena will become the housekeeper. Charles is just the same age as Edmund.
Mr. Hooper wanted them to be friends. But Edmund didn’t want, and writed a letter to Charles. ‘I DIDN’T WANT YOU TO COME HERE’. He was very nasty to Charles, and every time he teased him.
After a couple of weeks, Charles walked away. He was going to Hang Wood, but nobody knows the way there. After three hours of walking, he saw Edmund walking behind him. He was very angry at Edmund, but HE wasn’t going away. After a time, they were by a pool. It was late in the evening, and they stayed there. First they swam a little bit, maked a fire and ate something. But Edmund was ill, and in the middle of the night, he was crying. He wanted to go home, but they couldn’t.
The next day, they were find by a hunter. He brought them home. Mrs. Kingshaw and Mr. Hooper were very angry at Charles, because it was his idea to walk away and Edmund was ill. They didn’t believe that Edmund didn’t want Charles to be his friend. Charles got much punishment. And Mr. Hooper had got a suprise.... ‘You will be going off to school with Edmund!’ Charles knew that Edmund have got many friends at school and he make them to tease him. He didn’t know what to do.
